Coming from Google Health? Your Fitbit-era data is still in there. Export it and bring it to a platform that doesn't paywall basic features.
Google Health → Garmin Connect

Take your data.
Leave Google Health.

Google replaced Fitbit with Google Health, removed half the features people liked, and put the new AI Coach behind a $9.99/month paywall. If you've had enough, Wearable Converter moves your full Fitbit/Google Health activity history into Garmin Connect, where there's no subscription and you actually own your data.

What Google removed

The rebrand
cost you features

On 19 May 2026, the Fitbit app became Google Health. The new app didn't just change names. Here's what got removed or paywalled.

Gone

All badges

Every achievement badge you earned has been removed. Google says the new AI Coach will "celebrate progress" instead.

Gone

Sleep Profile

The animal-based monthly sleep profile is gone. Stress Score has been renamed to "Resilience" with vague labels (Optimal / Balanced / Low) instead of a number.

Gone

Social features

Direct messages, groups, community feed, friend leaderboards. All removed or downgraded. The Fitbit Community forum has been retired.

Paywalled

Google Health Coach

The new AI Coach replaces the old Daily Readiness and personalised insights, but the full experience now costs $9.99 USD per month. That's $120 per year for what used to be free.

Changed

Goals system

Daily goals replaced by weekly targets. Some people prefer this, but it's no longer your choice. Workout labelling, food logging and the dashboard have all been rearranged.

Ongoing

Future changes

Google has published a roadmap of "fixes" in response to user backlash, but the rebrand happened anyway and the direction is clear: more AI, more Premium, less of what you bought a Fitbit for.

Years of your data is still in there. The good news: you can take it with you.
The problem

Why moving your data
isn't straightforward

Google Takeout will export everything for you, but the file format is wrong for Garmin, and Garmin's import process is undocumented.

01. Wrong format

Google Takeout exports your history as JSON files (still labelled "Fitbit" inside, even after the rebrand). Garmin Connect only accepts a very specific CSV format that's not documented anywhere obvious.

02. Multiple files

Your history is split across hundreds of individual JSON files, one per data type per month. Merging them by hand takes hours.

03. Unit mismatches

The export stores data internally in imperial regardless of your display settings. Without the right conversions, your data lands in Garmin completely wrong.

How it works

Four steps.
Done in under 10 minutes.

No technical knowledge needed. If you can download a file and click a button, you can do this.

01. Export from Google Takeout

Use this direct link to open Google Takeout with Fitbit data already selected. Yes, it's still labelled Fitbit even after the Google Health rebrand. The underlying data format hasn't changed. Google will email you a ZIP of your full history.

02. Run the converter

Drop your ZIP into Wearable Converter. It runs entirely in your browser, your data never leaves your device. Google doesn't see this happen, and neither do we.

03. Download your files

Get a clean ZIP of Garmin-ready CSV files, split by year for reliable importing.

04. Import to Garmin

Upload each CSV to Garmin Connect. Your full history appears, ready to go. No subscription required.

What transfers

Everything that
Garmin supports.

Garmin Connect has specific limits on what historical data it accepts. We convert everything it allows.

✓ Included in conversion

Daily Steps
Complete daily step counts across your full history
Distance
Daily distance in km or miles, your choice
Calories Burned
Total daily calorie expenditure, appears as resting calories in Garmin for your imported history
Floors Climbed
Garmin calculates floors from elevation gain, 3 metres per floor. Your Fitbit device records the same elevation data, so your full floor history transfers accurately. You may actually see more floors in Garmin than Fitbit ever showed you.
Active Minutes
Lightly, fairly, and very active minutes daily
Weight, BMI & Body Fat %
All body composition entries transferred, including body fat %, which Garmin normally only accepts from their USD $220+ Index smart scale

, Not supported by Garmin

Heart Rate History
Garmin Connect has no import format for historical HR data
Sleep History
Historical sleep stages can't be imported to Garmin Connect
Individual Workouts
Workout-by-workout TCX data requires direct Fitbit API access
SpO2 & Stress Scores
No import path exists for these metrics in Garmin Connect

My app now says Google Health, does this still work?
Yes. The Fitbit app became Google Health on 19 May 2026, but Google Takeout still exports your data in the same Fitbit-labelled format. The underlying file structure hasn't changed, only the app branding on your phone. Wearable Converter works exactly the same whether you see Fitbit or Google Health on your device.
Why should I leave Google Health?
Personal preference. Plenty of people are fine with the rebrand. But if you're frustrated by losing badges, Sleep Profile, social features, or being asked to pay $9.99/month for the AI Coach that replaced functionality you already had, switching to Garmin gets you out of that ecosystem. Garmin Connect is free for the life of your device, no subscription tier, and you keep ownership of your data.
Is Google Health Premium worth $9.99 per month?
That's your call. The AI Coach is genuinely capable and uses Gemini, which is interesting tech. But you're paying $119.88 per year for an enhanced version of features (sleep analysis, personalised insights) that were partly free in the old Fitbit app. Garmin includes Body Battery, Training Readiness, and full sleep analysis at zero monthly cost. If the AI Coach is worth $120/year to you, stay. If not, this is why people are leaving.
Will I lose my Google Health data once I export it?
No. Exporting via Google Takeout copies your data, it doesn't delete or remove anything from Google Health. Your account stays exactly as it was. You can keep using Google Health alongside Garmin if you want, or delete your Google Health account separately at your own pace.
Do I need to delete my Google Health account?
No. The export and conversion process is completely independent of your Google Health account. If you decide later you want to wipe your Google Health data, you can do that through the Google Health app or your Google account settings. Wearable Converter has nothing to do with that step.
Is my data safe?
Yes. The converter runs entirely in your browser, your data is never uploaded to any server. We never see it, store it, or have access to it. The only thing that touches our servers is the licence key validation.
How do I export my Google Health data?
Use this direct link to open Google Takeout with the Fitbit data category already selected. Don't worry about the "Fitbit" label, that's the internal data category name and it includes everything Google Health stores. Request a download and Google will email you a ZIP file, that's what you drop into Wearable Converter. The process usually takes a few minutes to a few hours depending on how much data you have. See our full export guide for screenshots.
How long does conversion take?
For most people with 2 to 4 years of data, conversion takes 30 to 90 seconds in the browser. Importing into Garmin Connect takes a few minutes more. You upload one CSV file per year.
Why does Garmin sometimes show an upload error?
This is a known bug in Garmin Connect's importer that affects all CSV uploads, not specific to our files. The data almost always imports successfully despite the error message. Simply retry the upload and it will go through. Garmin is aware of the issue.
Does my Takeout export need to be recent?
Yes, request a fresh Google Takeout export immediately before converting. Your wearable syncs to Google's servers in batches, so older exports can contain incomplete data for recent dates, which causes Garmin's importer to reject those files. Use this direct link to request a fresh copy.
Why isn't all my data transferring?
Some data types, like heart rate history, sleep stages, and individual workout details, simply cannot be imported into Garmin Connect. This is a limitation of what Garmin's platform accepts, not a limitation of our tool. We transfer everything Garmin allows.
Can I get my body fat % into Garmin without buying their scale?
Yes, and this is one of the most underrated things Wearable Converter does. Garmin normally only accepts body fat % data from their own Garmin Index smart scale, which costs USD $220+. But if you logged body fat % in Fitbit/Google Health (via a Fitbit Aria scale or manual entry), Wearable Converter transfers that historical data directly into Garmin Connect. You get years of body composition history in Garmin without spending a cent on their scale. If you just want to add a single body composition entry manually, try our free body composition CSV generator.
Do I need to create an account with Wearable Converter?
No account needed. After purchase, you receive a licence key by email. Enter that key on the tool page and you're ready to go.
Can't I just do this myself for free?
Technically yes, but it involves parsing hundreds of JSON files, handling unit conversions, correcting for timezone offsets, merging data across years, and formatting everything to Garmin's exact CSV spec. We've done all that work so you don't have to. Wearable Converter handles it in under 90 seconds for $9.
Still on the original Fitbit app (never migrated to Google)?
If your account was never migrated to a Google account, the 15 July 2026 deletion deadline has passed, and only a Takeout export saved before then preserves that history. Read our Fitbit to Garmin page, which covers what still works.
